The Norwegian Government has announced that it will to allow dual citizenship for Norwegians living abroad and also foreigners living in Norway.
Currently, Norway is one of the few countries in Europe that does not permit dual citizenship. This comes as a welcome news for many Norwegian expats who mainly live in US, can now hold both US citizenship and Norwegian citizenship.
Norway’s Høyre (Conservative) Party, the largest party in the governing coalition, voted at its annual conference in favour of a proposal to allow dual citizenship in the country reported The Local
It is estimated that about 40,000 Norwegians from Pakistani origin with benefit from the new dual citizenship rules.
In principle, as a Norwegian citizen, you are obliged to serve your military service in Norway.
