Anichi Resort begins construction with a ground breaking ceremony in Dominica

Signalling the beginning of construction, a groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the highly anticipated Anichi Resort and Spa in Picard, Dominica.

Supported by prestige brand Marriott International, Anichi Resort and Spa is one of a variety of development opportunities authorized to receive investment through Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Program, thereby allowing investors to obtain citizenship of Dominica.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, was among the list of esteemed guests, explaining that real estate developments funded by the CBI, like Anichi Resort and Spa, “gives us an opportunity to build [and] to expand the economy in a practical and tangible way.”

As a well-established tourism destination with an ambitious plan to grow its visitor arrivals each year, Dominican officials are moving steadfastly to provide accommodation that is of the highest quality. Leading commentary at the groundbreaking ceremony, CEO of Anichi Development, Alick Lawrence, also spoke highly of the important contribution the Citizenship by Investment Programme makes to the nation:

“The impact of the Citizenship by Investment Programme is of course not limited to this project. In every aspect of Dominican life, whether health, infrastructure, the national employment programme, medical assistance, and housing to name a few, citizens – whether or not they know or acknowledge it – are benefitting from the programme.”

“Indeed I would be bold enough to say that there is no Dominican resident who has not benefitted in one way or another directly or indirectly from the Citizenship by Investment Programme.”

Belonging to the world’s biggest hotel brand, and in particular Marriott International’s Autograph Collection Hotels range, Anichi is expected to drive not only adventure tourism to the island, but also the meetings, conference and exhibition market. Described as “a place to renew your spirit and come alive again,” the Resort will come equipped with all the luxury amenities of which Marriott is known, including but not limited to speciality restaurants, swim-up bars, infinity pools, and a lavish ballroom.

The Portsmouth area, where Anichi will be based, is filled with landmarks and the town has long been a centre of activity since it was established in the 18th Century. This, and the many resplendent beaches it possesses, make the town an obvious candidate for development.

Anichi Resort and Spa will be a strong catalyst for the modernisation of this historical hub, empowering local communities. Constructing a five-star resort like Anichi is a significant development. It will be a major asset within the Government’s broader mission of addressing the many facets of human development in our country.

CEO of Anichi Development concluded his opening statement, fittingly describing what the project means to the island: “We are able as Dominicans to create a resort that exemplifies and celebrates the culture, spirit and resilience of our people and the island.”
