A Comparison of Citizenship costs in Europe

The Independent recently reported The cost of citizenship for children in the UK is 22 times higher than other countries in Europe. We decided to dig deep to find out the cost of citizenship for adults and children in all the European countries. We find that Switzerland, United Kingdom and Ireland have the high costs for citizenship crossing over 1000 euros.

Austria

Naturalisation at the Authorities’ Discretion

  • Single persons: EUR 900 federal fee plus EUR 150 provincial administrative fee
  • Married couples: EUR 1,600 federal fee plus EUR 226 provincial administrative fee

Extension of Citizenship to Minor Children

EUR 200 in federal fees and EUR 76 in provincial administrative fees are payable per child (in all cases).

Ireland

Ireland requires application and certification fees for naturalisation procedure.

1. Application fee
