Montenegro Golden Passports Granted to 400+ Foreigners

The Montenegro Citizen by Investment scheme in the economic interest of Montenegro operated for a limited time of four years 01.01.2019 until 31.12.2021, which was extended until December 31, 2022  on the basis of a maximum of 2,000 requests for citizenship. 

As of 25.05.2022, a total 409 investors and their family members were approved acquisition of Montenegrin citizenship by admission on the basis of a special program. 

At the session of May 26, 2022, the Government of Montenegro adopted decision number: 04-3275/2 of May 26, 2022 and, among other things, tasked the Ministry of internal affairs to, in the spirit of transparency of the procedure itself and public interest in persons who have acquired Montenegrin citizenship by admission.The order was was tasked the Ministry of Internal Affairs to provide a list of the names of persons who have been admitted to Montenegrin citizenship on this basis 

According to the records kept in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (as of 25.05.2022), a total of 409 persons (investors and family members) received Montenegrin nationality for making economic investments, thus were issued passports.

The Montenegro decided to end the citizenship by investment scheme to pursue its EU-acquis ambitions amidst pressure from the EU to halt granting citizenship for investments.
