Spain investor visa statistics

Entrepreneurial Support Act of 27 September 2013 (Ley 14/2013) regulates spanish migration scheme for investors who have made significant investment in Spain. The investor visa program continues to be more popular among Chinese and Russians

The spanish investor visa  (law 14/2013) has minimum investment requirements:

  • Public debt (€2 million).
  •  Shares (€1 million).
  •  Investment funds, investment funds of closeend type or venture capital funds set up in Spain (€1 million).
  •  Bank deposits (€1 million). Real estate (€500,000).
  • Business projects: there is no minimum investment requirement, they must be of general interest: – Creation of jobs – Social and economic impact on the geographical area where they are made. – Significant contribution to scientific and/or technological innovation.
  • Startup visa in Spain for foreign entrepreneurs

According to Spain’s Ministry of Employment and Social Security Office, the residence authorizations granted by application of support law 14/2013 for international entrepreneurs  are they are 23,473 as of december 31, 2017

With respect to December 2016, an increase of 45.8%, that is, 7,371 foreigners with this type of authorization in force.

The number of foreigners with residence authorization for reasons of economic interest stands at 12,578 on December 31 of 2017, while 10,895 authorizations correspond to their families.

Among foreigners residing for reasons of economic interest, 6,055 (48.1%) correspond to highly qualified professionals,
2,905 to investors, 2,017 to intra-company transfers, 1,319 to researchers or associates to the training and 282 to
entrepreneurs.

One in three foreigners with residence authorization for reasons of economic interest is national of China (1,848), of Russia (1,172) of
United States (958).

The United States is the country that contributes the most workers by intra-corporate transfer (323), as well as entrepreneurs (50). On the other hand, between

Investors highlight the nationals of China and Russia, with 997 and 797 respectively. The statistics does not show how many investors purchased real estate or Government bonds or started a company.

Foreigners in Spain

Two out of every three foreigners with certificate of registration or residence card in force reside in Catalonia, Community of Madrid, Andalusia and Valencian Community. These four autonomous communities together represent 65.8% of the total.

Madrid (846,861) and Barcelona (763,732) are the provinces with greater number of residents with residence permits. These two provinces together represent 30.8% of the total. In semiannual variation, each of these two provinces has increased by 16,000 foreigners,
which represents an inter annual variation of 2.0%.

It is followed by the provinces of the Mediterranean coast: Alicante / Alacant (335.802), Valencia / València (266,925), Málaga (257,349), Murcia (220,275) and Almería (164.308).
