Golden visas in Greece soar overtaking Portugal, almost 3000 permits issued in Q2 2018 alone

Greece has issued 2968  golden visa residence permits for property investment in half of 2018 year, according to the new statistics released by Migration Policy Institute as of 27 July 2018.

Greece has overtaken Portugal golden visa scheme by miles with 2.6X times more golden visas issued by Greece, statistics reveal. According to ARI Portugal golden visa June 2018 statistics,  Portugal only issued 816 permits for investors and 1478 for family members. While Greece already issued 2968 golden visas for main property investors, that is overtaken by 263%, the statistics reveal

Greece requires €250,000 property investment, while Portugal requires a minimum of €350,000 property investment.  Recently Greece announced it will expand the golden visa scheme by adding more investment options such as bank deposits, government bonds and capital transfer with 400,000 threshold.

According to the latest statistics

• 2.968 golden visas issued  for property investors, as of 27 July 2018, compared to only 2458 in entire 2017. This is expected to double by end of 2018.
• 7,565 family members were issued residence permits in 2018, compared to 6120 in 2017
• China, Russian and Iraq are the top three investors in golden visa scheme.
• Piraeus region issued more golden visas than Athens.
• A total of 8,367 property investors  and 12,089 family members received residence permits since scheme started in 2013.
