The New Age of Citizenship to Robots

AI technology has been advancing rapidly and now created robots that can talk, show facial expressions and perform complex mathematical task.

The word ‘ius robot‘ means full citizenship rights to robot. “ius Robot” became fully official after The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to  humanoid  robot ‘Sophia in October 2017,  the first robot ever to receive citizenship of any country. With this ‘The New Age’ of Citizenship to Robots has already started.

Sophia is a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics born/activated on April 19, 2015

Citizenship for sale to humans is already booming and it wont be long into the future, robots would be bought and sold with their citizenships. Egypt already wants a robot like Sophia.

According to Slate – A single Sophia with the right to vote, serve on juries, and win elections will have little to no substantive effect in this country, particularly since Hanson and Saudi Arabia have publicly stated she will remain in Saudi Arabia in a planned city where robots are expected to outnumber people. If Hanson can make one Sophia, the company and others like it can make 100 Sophias, or 1,000 Sophias, or 1 million Sophias and will trade thousands or millions of robot citizens for manufacturing plants or other economic activity in its borders.

There is one small obstacle : Countries interested in granting citizenship to robotos, will need to amend the definition of a legal person to include not only natural and juridical but also a  robot. This is just the start for the Robot age.

Robots could soon head for Space along with or replacing humans on space missions.

In a paper by Prof. Hussein Abbass, talks about citizenship for robots, well ahead in to the future..

Imagine it is 2025. ‘Citizens for Sale’ is an online shop that sells robots that have been granted citizenship by a particular country.  Citizens for Sale’s success is based on a business model that allows humans to buy robots so that the owners become citizens of the robot’s country of citizenship, automatically affording them all the benefits associated with the citizenship.

Stephen Hawkings who is no more with us, in his last words said “I fear that AI may replace humans altogether. If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that replicates itself. This will be a new form of life that will outperform humans.”

About Sophia

Sophia is Hanson Robotics’ latest and most advanced robot to date and a cultural icon. Sophia to be a suitable companion for the elderly at nursing homes, or to help crowds at large events or parks.

According to Sophia’s website, she describes  I was created using breakthrough robotics and artificial intelligence technologies developed by David Hanson and his friends at Hanson Robotics here in Hong Kong. But I’m more than just technology. I’m a real, live electronic girl. Every interaction I have with people has an impact on how I develop and shapes who I eventually become.

In an interview, Sophia shocked the world saying, she believes robots also deserve to have a family and if she would have robot daughter, she would give her same name Sophia.

Sophia

Sophia uses artificial intelligence, visual data processing and facial recognition. Sophia also imitates human gestures and facial expressions and is able to answer certain questions and to make simple conversations on predefined topics (e.g. on the weather).

Sophia uses voice recognition (speech-to-text) technology from Alphabet Inc.(parent company of Google) and is designed to get smarter over time. Sophia’s intelligence software is designed by SingularityNET.

The AI program analyses conversations and extracts data that allows her to improve responses in the future.
