The Cambodian citizenship scheme is a hidden gem in Asia

Cambodia has a super interesting and exciting citizenship by investment schemes in Asia.  It is also the ONLY citizenship by investment (CBI) scheme in Asia offering fast track khmer nationality to foreign investors.

This cambodian scheme is not very well promoted only very few know about this scheme.  This scheme is very popular with chinese, south koreans and australians because of the proximity to mainland china. As of 2018, there has been over 1000 foreigners obtained citizenship in exchange for investments.

The Cambodian passport is one of the unique and exclusive passports in the world for those seeking investment citizenship.

The concept of economic citizenship for investments is inscribed in the khmer nationality law exists in two forms:

  • Citizenship by investment: Foreigner who invests 1.25 billion riels (about $312,500) in Cambodia
  • Citizenship by donation: USD 250,000 donation to the state.

Seven year residency requirements are waived for the above two investment options.

Although Cambodia does not have a super powerful passport, the citizenship does offer full rights to to live, work, study, visit, do business and invest in this developing country.  Cambodia permits dual citizenship.

The Ministry of Interior in Cambodia makes decision within six months on citizenship matters.

Cambodian citizenship was ranked 71st out of 190 countries in the Best Citizenships Index 2019.  The Cambodian passport has visa free travel to only 54 countries.

Cambodia also offers easy e-visas for $36 to visit the Kingdom

Cambodia has a large population of over 15 million and Angkor wat is a world heritage site. Tourism was Cambodia’s fastest growing industry, with 3 million arrivals in first half of 2018 with mainly chinese tourists.

The National Bank of Cambodia is the central bank of the kingdom and provides regulatory oversight to the country’s banking sector and is responsible in part for increasing the foreign direct investment in the country.

In 2017, Cambodia maintained a growth rate of 7.0%, supported by robust growth of construction of garment sector, agriculture, strong recovery of hotel and restaurant sub-sectors

Cambodia’s Garment industry represents the largest portion of manufacturing sector, accounting for 80% of the country’s exports.  Cambodians drink plenty of tea
