The UK government has released the Yellowhammer operation document, about the worst case scenario happening with no deal brexit.
When the UK leaves EU on Oct 31 (thursday weekend), with no-deal, UK ceases to be a member of the Union and revert to third country status ending with all rights and reciprocal agreements. The report said administrative procedures may involve language barriers and political uncertainty may cause barriers may contribute to delays and disruptions before smooth transition and may likely last for upto 3 months
The report very importantly mentions to prepare for climate change, such as severe weather winter conditions, flooding and seasonal flu.
Here is the possible worst case scenario, that may happen according the information compiled by UK government.
1. UK nationals will cease to be EU citizens and lose their EU citizenship status, resulting in losing associated services and rights in the EU.
2. UK nationals will be subjected to increased immigration checks at the borders, resulting in more delays in airport arrivals and departures.
3. France will impose mandatory customs controls on UK goods from the Day 1 No Deal (D1ND) and supply of goods across Channel and Gibraltar may be effected. When the UK becomes a third country, automatic application of EU tariff on goods entering Ireland will disrupt trade. Disruptions and delays can also cause HGV trains operating across the channel, and in a worst case scenario, can cause 1.5 to 2 days to cross the channel
4. Significant increase in electricity prices (business and consumer) likely
5. Significant impact can be felt in medicine supplies (incl veterinary) , fresh food supplies
6. Hard brexit will have an impact on the flow of personal data information and information sharing. EU implemented GDPR in May 2018 protecting personal information.
7. The sharing of law enforcement data between EU/UK will be disrupted. This information is critical to protection of borders)
8. Healthcare agreements between UK/EU states will not be extended past Oct 31, as a result UK may refuse to fund treatments. EU member states to treat UK nationals as third country nationals.
9. The UK government is anticipating more protests and demonstrations as a result of no-deal brexit, therefore consuming more resources of police.
10. More than 280 EU fishing vessels operating in UK waters could be declared illegal.
