Dominica is set to power up 23,000 homes with clean geothermal energy nearly benefiting 90% of the entire population.
The geothermal project is partly funded by citizenship by investment (CBI) program and other part funded by Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Construction will be set on the outskirts of the capital city of Roseau.
The SEF-Expanded programme is funded in three components totalling US$ 85.6 million, which will be executed under the auspices of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
UN predicts that Dominica will have the greatest GDP growth in 2019 in the Caribbean region. After Hurricane Maria in 2017, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt pledged to make Dominica “world’s first climate resilient nation”.
The geothermal plant expected have a substantially positive impact the island’s national advancement and the lives of its citizens.
“With the commissioning of this plant, we will be in a position to benefit from clean, reliable, low-cost, renewable, high-quality energy supply in the future, which will benefit all sectors of productive activity in Dominica,” said Minister Ian Douglas.
Dominica has one of the most popular citizenship by investment schemes in the Caribbean region starting from $100,000.
